The Miami Heat enjoyed a successful week, with wins against the Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, Charlotte Hornets and their only loss coming to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Heat did an acceptable job hitting their three-point shot, controlling their turnover rate, and improved rebounding effort. Their deficiencies were mainly their fast break offense, perimeter defense, and giving up second chance rebounds. Though in their win against the Hornets, the Heat scored a season high in fast break points. The effort on the defensive end was great, Miami is 11th in steals per defensive plays, that goes to their help off-ball and the help on the drives by swiping for steals, which has given them more opportunities.
The Heat hit the 120-point mark twice this week, they had only hit that mark twice all December. Their three-point shooting has been great all season. They continued to generate open looks to set their shooters up, even when the shots aren’t dropping. They moved to 2-0 this season when they hold their opponents under 100 points, their defense was a major key during this week.
We were told good news where Jimmy Butler could be returning this week. That’ll be a sure uptick in scoring and stronger defensive play. On the other hand, Jaime Jaquez Jr. exited early in their game against the Hornets, he will not be traveling with the team to take on the Brooklyn Nets tonight. Jaquez Jr. has logged the most minutes among rookies, and as always, in his absence the “next man up” mentality continues.
