Miami Heat Player Insight: Justin Champagnie

Age: 22

Position: Guard-Forward

HT/WT: 6’6”, 206 lbs

Years Experience: 2 years

What he does well: Rebounding. In the G League, Justin Champagnie averaged eight rebounds per game, three of which were offensive rebounds. Those are great numbers considering his size and position. He has a high motor and is aggressive when crashing the boards. He knows how to highpoint the ball and grab it confidently even in traffic. Champagnie scores his points around the basket and finishes at a good clip. Champagnie is also a good defender and uses his athleticism to make an impact on both ends of the court.

What he needs to improve on: More free throw attempts, free throw percentage and three shooting consistency. He averaged 2 free throw attempts while shooting 69% from the line per game with the Sioux Falls Sky Force last year. Those numbers are very low considering 65% of his field goal attempts were inside the three-point line. It’s important for him to improve his three-point shooting consistencies, in 2022-23 he shot 31% compared to 2021-22 when he shot 40%. Developing a midrange game would help his offensive skillset as well, currently three percent of his points come from the midrange.

Heat player comparison: Jaime Jaquez Jr. Champagnie and Jaquez Jr. aren’t afraid of doing the dirty work, they’re great rebounders and are plug-and-play type players that will find a way to contribute any way possible. Like Jaquez Jr., Champagnie excels inside the three-point line and is an efficient scorer.
