Miami Heat Player Insight: Drew Peterson

Drew Peterson Miami Heat Forward

Age: 23

HT/WT: 6’9”, 205 lbs

Position: Forward

Experience: Rookie

What he does well: Being a jack of all trades! In his two seasons at USC, Peterson shot 38% from three, averaged six rebounds and four assists per game. On top of it all, he has a knock for steals, averaging over one a game in his last college season. Peterson almost always makes the right plays and never tries to do too much. He is a winning player and will do whatever it takes to get playing time. Peterson deserves a Two-Way contract; I've only been asking for it since the first Summer League game.

What he needs to work on: Focusing on an elite skill. While watching Peterson play, you might find yourself thinking “What does he do that is elite?”. Not having an elite skill that he's consistent with is his biggest issue when it comes to making an NBA roster. It might be weird to hear that someone's biggest weakness is they are good at everything, but it’s the reality with Peterson. He doesn’t have that one skill he can always rely on. There will always be players who can perform a specific skill better. If Peterson adds an elite factor to his game such as shooting, passing, and or defense, then it will only give him a greater chance at becoming an NBA player.

I think there's a good chance at Drew staying with the organization long-ish term. I see him as a backup to Duncan along with Swider!
