What he does well: This past summer league, Alondes Williams was a pesky defender who caused many problems for opposing teams, your typical Miami Heat player on the defensive end. Williams is a good facilitator and can set up his teammates, typically off his penetration. In his senior year of college, Williams played point guard and led the ACC in assists and Assist/TO ratio. That alone makes him more than capable of running an offense. Williams also does something that the Heat often struggle with, efficiently converting drives to the rim into points.
What he needs to improve: Shooting. Williams shot 27% from three throughout his entire collegiate career. This was the main concern coming out of college, along with concerns about his inconsistent shooting mechanics. In the G League he shot 37% on four three-point attempts per game. It was one season in the G League, but it's an improvement nonetheless. More consistency is needed before we can trust his shooting. Williams won't be a knockdown shooter, but if he wants to make the team, he must improve his shooting.
Heat player comparison: Caleb Martin. This is not a perfect match, but there are similarities. Williams and Martin have similar physical traits and are quality finishers around the rim; like Williams, Martin had questionable shooting mechanics coming out of college. Williams' defensive capabilities stand out and can make momentous shifts in games when needed most.
He could be a nice asset with the PG situation
Short and sweet! Would be cool to see him get some minutes this season
