Marlins vs Braves Series Overview

Game 1: 16-4, Game 2: 7-0, Game 3: 6-3

This was not a series the Marlins had in mind as they came in 14 games above .500 with all momentum riding in a winning direction, but struggles against the top team in the NL and arguably the best lineup in baseball this year continued. The Marlins in this series batted .203, had more strikeouts (28) than hits (21) and only 4 walks as a team, which is not going to win you a series against any top team in baseball. The Braves respectfully have a lot to overcome with an ELITE hitting lineup from 1-9, and top 5 pitching in ERA and saves. The Marlins also left 9 runners in scoring position during this series, which wasn't helping them get back into games, they did not have a steal attempt either which is also due to them not being able to get on base consistently. Regardless of the bad play, every team has roughly 3 series a year that you must put behind and move forward. For Miami, all 3 series against the Braves would be the series to throw away as they are 1-9, outscored 83-29, shut out 3 times, and have allowed double digit losses in 3 games. Miami must now shift their focus and continue their strong season as they are still 1.0 games above the Dodgers for the top Wild Card spot in the NL.

Here’s a look at a couple players who were bright spots in the series against the Braves:

Luis Arraez: 3 GP, .333(4-12), 1 K, 2 RBI

He has dipped back down to .389 after only having 6 hits in his last 5 games but he did go 2-4 in their last game of the series, with 2 RBI, so look for him to build off this performance and hopefully he gets back to .400 soon.

Jesus Sanchez: 2 GP, .285(2-7), 1 R, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 4 K

He was able to provide the most RBIs for the Marlins this weekend only playing 2 of 3 games. He hit his first home run since June 7th and has 7 on the year.

JT Chargois: 2.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K on 29 Pitches-19 Strikes

1 of 3 pitchers who did not allow a run this series, he has not given up a run since June 13th.

George Soriano: 3.2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K on 51 Pitches-35 Strikes

George came in after an early exit from Eury in the first inning after he gave up a 6-0 lead and kept the best team in the NL at bay, not allowing a hit, and recovered the team even though the offense could not get anything going.

The Marlins are going to regroup and get ready for a 7-game homestand before the All-Star break against the Cardinals(4) and the Phillies(3). It will be the first meeting between the Cards and 2nd against the Phillies in which Marlins lead the series 2-1 with 3 more meetings to come. Miami will bounce back but it starts with having guys get on base, collecting hits, and better pitching from the starters. Should be a fun week of Marlins baseball!
