The Marlins won their series against the Dodgers 2-1, tying their overall series 3-3 with another great offensive performance. Although Miami was shutout in their last game of the series, they scored 17 runs in the two games prior. With the Marlins having scoring troubles throughout the season, this last week of baseball they have scored 48 runs to their opponents 32. It has only been 9 days into September and the Marlins have already scored half the runs that they did in all of August (97). This is a sign that their heading in the right direction; however, they will have to continue to rely on their offense as they will be without their ace, Sandy Alcantara due to a right forearm flexor strain. Sandy is now placed on the 15-day IL along with Jorge Soler who is still dealing with his oblique strain. Miami is still in very tough race for the last NL Wild Card Spot after losing their ace and home run leader, but conveniently, Miami is 17-2 without Soler in the starting lineup.
Miami showed resilience throughout the series after putting together quality at-bats, taxing the Dodgers bullpen, and offensively taking the games over. They were shutout in their last game 10-0, Dodgers pitcher, Ryan Pepiot, had Miami's number this year in his two starts against them. Pepiot had a perfect game through five innings, but eventually allowed a hit and exited after 7.0 IP.
