The Miami Heat are back home with many issues to address and improve on after their recent lackluster road trip. Miami is looking to regain their three-point shooting rhythm, improve ball movement and shot selection. Another issue for the Heat is their transition offense. They can have great defense and get as many steals as they want, but it feels as if it's a wasted effort when the team cannot cash in on those fastbreak opportunities. Capitalization on turnovers is key.
The Houston Rockets and Oklahoma City Thunder are young teams who will run in transition. The last thing the Heat can afford to do is be careless with the ball and have poor shot selection. With the Rockets and Thunder being great half court defensive teams, it’s crucial for the Heat to capitalize on any transition shot attempts they can get. We’ve seen too many times where the Heat have been stuck in an early shot clock, and then struggle at the end to find an efficient shot.
On the other hand, Miami is 7-0 against their division opponents, two of which being teams they’ll be playing during this homestand. The Orlando Magic presents a lot of size and the Charlotte Hornets are a young and feisty team that’ll make you pay on the other end when any wasted possessions occur.
Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson must improve their shooting during this homestand. It’s paramount, not only for them being the team’s premier shooters, but also because of all the role players they’ll free up after attracting strong defense.
The Heat have listed Jimmy Butler out for Monday's game against the Rockets, Caleb Martin is listed as doubtful, and Haywood Highsmith is off the injury report. This team is finally getting good news by having one of their defensive wings back.
