Boom, Doomed, Busted: Wild Card Weekend

  1. BUSTED:  Pittsburgh Steelers

Sneaking into the playoffs after receiving some help, the Steelers will travel to Buffalo to face the Bills. I have absolutely zero faith “Mason Rudolph” is going to walk into that stadium, light it up, and fly off into the night with a W. This is more of an impressive feat from Mike Tomlin. That dude knows ball. It is good for football when the Steelers are good, and even when they are a bad team they still manage to put themselves in position to make the playoffs. However, I feel that is the pinnacle of their season. Rudolph and company are not going to be able to keep pace with the likes of Josh Allen and Stephon Diggs. It would take an outstanding effort from their defense to pull this one out. They would have to keep the Bills under 20 points. See ya next year Pittsburgh.

2. DOOMED:  Miami Dolphins

For the second straight week the Dolphins find themselves in a precarious position. They choked the division lead in the final game of the season and now have to travel to Kansas City and face what looks to be sub zero wind chills. Oh boy… the Dolphins dominated the ground in the first half and then decided to abandon that completely. If they have any desire to escape Arrowhead, they are going to need their RBs up around 30-40 combined carries. Achane is going to be their key to victory. The Chiefs have an incredible defense but with this level of velocity at the skill positions, you always have a chance. I do believe they will fold and it is solely because of the weather. They NEEDED to win that division. Personally, I think this game is going to be close and low scoring and the winner likely wins by a field goal. Can the Dolphins do enough to pull out a victory? If they do, it would certainly solidify them as a legit contender. However, it’s cold so I expect Miami to fold….

 3 . BOOM:  Matt Stafford

This has to be one of the best storylines I can remember in all my years of watching ball. The Detroit Lions have not hosted a playoff game in, get this, THIRTY YEARS. We all know Stafford is highly regarded in this city, but I think he will play the villain this weekend. He is going to walk in their and carve a suspect defense on a field that he is very familiar with. Puka and Kupp are going to be running rampant. I expect Stafford to be finding guys all over the place. I’m looking at an above 68% completion percentage and no turnovers. Stafford will do what he has never done in a Lions uniform and win a playoff game in the city of Detroit. Kyren Williams is  going to be crucial in the success of Stafford. If they can get him going early it is going to open up the entire playbook.
